Special guest speaker: Richard Ross from the Steinhart Aquarium

Richard currently works as an Aquatic Biologist at the Steinhart Aquarium in the California Academy of Sciences, maintaining many exhibits including the 212,000 gallon Phipipine Coral Reef. He has kept saltwater animals for over 25 years, and has worked in aquarium maintenance, retail, wholesale and has consulted for a coral farm/fish collecting station in the South Pacific. Richard enjoys all aspects of the aquarium hobby and is a regular author for trade publications, a frequent speaker at aquarium conferences and was a founder of one of the largest and most progressive reef clubs in Northern California, Bay Area Reefers. He is an avid underwater videographer and has been fortunate to scuba dive all over the world. At home he maintains a 300 gallon reef system and a 250 gallon cephalopod breeding system, and was one of the first people to close the life cycle of Sepia bandensis. When not doing all that stuff, he enjoys spending time with his patient wife, his incredible daughter and their menagerie of animals, both wet and dry.

 Reef-A-Palooza  2011
The Southern California Marine Aquarium Society is again proud to host the 8th annual Reef-a-Palooza. Thank you for being patient as we plan our event. Reef-a-Palooza will be held October 22nd and 23rd in Costa Mesa, California.

This year there will be some changes. For starters, SCMAS committee members Greg Fryling and Steve Carroll will be handling reservations. SCMAS is having a new website designed to improve your future reservation experience. That change is still approximately a month away. So for now if you would like to reserve a space, please send an email to reefapalooza2011@gmail.com and we will accommodate your request.

With over 3,200 atttendees, Reef-a-Palooza became the largest marine aquarium event in the country. Reef-a-Palooza continues to expand our hobby through education, conservation, and propagation. We hope to keep you in our family of those committed to the future of captive reef keeping.

Reef-a-Palooza continues to be the best value for consumers and vendors. As always we will continue to have a large group of volunteers to assist you during set-up and tear-down as well as during the show itself. As a SCMAS supporter and previous Reef-a-Palooza attendee, we are opening booth space a tad early for you to reserve your space. Returning exhibitors may be eligible for additional discounts as a special thanks for your continued support. Please visit our website atwww.reefapalooza.org for more information on booths, location, and accommodations.

In its 25th year, SCMAS continues to be a forward thinking organization. With many "firsts" (frag swaps, scratch and dent sales, workshops, Western Marine Conference 1995) SCMAS continues to remain a positive force for this wonderful and dynamic hobby.

Sincerely,

Gregory Carroll
